The British royal family’s Christmas rituals close out a difficult year

The British royal family’s holiday customs will provide comfort and closure during the holidays this year, a highlight that helps turn the page after a rough year marked by controversy and mourning. After an eventful year, the royals are making a point to gather together at Queen Elizabeth II’s Sandringham estate for a grand Christmas celebration. Aside from the Queen and her husband Prince Philip, attendees will include the Prince of Wales and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall; the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; and Prince Harry and his bride Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. The Princess Royal and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, will also be there.
